Welcome to the new Rails2Sussex website.
This is the place to go for all things RAILWAY that start, go through, or finish within the areas of Sussex or Kent. This covers a vast commuter area feeding London & the South East of the United Kingdom. Our aim is to feature both historic as well as the current 21st Century scene and will from time-to-time, include noteworthy books and some relevant videos.
We also aim to promote new railway proposals that could transform the whole of the Southern Counties and go a long way in reducing the reliance of car travel within the South East Coast and High Weald areas of natural beauty.
Our first feature is of the latest proposal by the BML2 Project Team who are keen to develop a new rail route from the South Coast towards London from both Brighton and Lewes via a connection to the existing Wealden Line at Uckfield. It is a large scheme that will provide direct journeys to London's Canary Wharf, Stratford and even Stanstead Airport. It also provides for Tunbridge Wells West station to be included and offer travel to both Brighton and London over BML2. The promoters have already managed to get 100% private funding in place, so no public funding would be required from Government. Click on the BML2 Project tab to read about this exiting proposal and the FAQ pages of the three phases of the scheme.
